Seaports
and ports-services
The
long coastline with many out-of-wind, deep and rarely sediment
places, which favour the development of the sea ports. Especially,
Cái Lân and Cửa Ông are two seaports surrounded by
limestone mountains, which prevent the ports from waves and wind.
The existing waterborne can accommodate ships of thousands of tons
to go in and out for goods handling.
Cái
Lân’s waterborne is 18 nautical miles (equiv. 27 km) long,
110-m wide, -8.2 m deep, and has an average tidal level of +3.6 m
(4.46-m high tide).
Cửa
Ông’s waterborne is 37 km long, 110 m wide, including the
section from the pier to Con Ong Islet which is 7.5 km long, -7.4
m deep; section Con Ong Islet - Nét Islet (Ḥn Nét) which is
16.5 km long, -13 m deep; section Ḥn Nét - buoy zero which is
13 km long, -9.2 m deep. Vietnam National Coal Corp. is now doing
studies of dredging the waterborne that section pier - Con Ong
Islet can be -9.0 m deep, and section Ḥn Nét - buoy zero can be
- 12 m.
Taking
advantages of deep seaport development, the Vietnamese Government
makes best efforts to invest in the ports of Cái Lân and
Cửa Ông which are expected to support other fields, e.g.,
steel industry, cement production, and productions of export,
etc., substantially. The master plans for developing the seaports
of Quang Ninh up to the year 2010 (Decision 202/ 1999/ QĐ-TTg
