From 1955 to present

After 10 years of relatively peaceful life, on August 5, 1964, US aircraft launched bombs on the area, opening the war on the North. Quảng Ninh suffered two periods of violent bombing, and in the town of Ḥn Gai, not one house remained intact. As well, Cửa Ông and Hà Tu were almost leveled. Quảng Ninh's citizens joined the resistance; striking back against the 7,417 jets that flew over dropping bombs and napalm. Over 200 US aircraft were shot down.
While people on the mainland courageously fought against US aircraft, those on the islands resisted by firing on enemy warships. Thousands of Quảng Ninh youth put their lives on the line, founding the Coal Regiment, aiding to the South, many of them were fell during fierce battle.
After the following years of economic crisis, the Sixth Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam launched a new period of renewal and economic reform, or doi moi. After 10 years of renovation, there have been great changes in the economic and social fields within Quảng Ninh, as throughout the country. With opportunities for more open thought, democracy has been brought into play, potential resources have been awakened and creativity has been boosted. At present, the political state is stable, national defense has been consolidated, the economy is developing and cultural lives are improving.
With the great potentials, Quảng Ninh is one of the main development regions of the economy in the North
